THIS YEAR'S Joy FM Old School Reunion, which was held last Saturday at the Accra International Trade Fair Centre, would be forever remembered as the biggest when compared to that of previous years.

The Old School Reunion is a yearly event that brings back fond memories of secondary school, polytechnic and university experiences, and gives people the opportunity to relive those unforgettable times all over again.

The event attracted over 50,000 people from second cycle and tertiary institutions who turned up to reunite with old pals and reminisce about 'the good old days'.

The Trade Fair site was packed with people from all the senior secondary schools in the country, as well as tertiary institution.

This year had Zain, Ghana's freshest telecoms operator, as the main sponsor of the event, along with Coca-Cola, Guinness and Smirnoff Ice, Benchmark Professional Institute and Pleasure Condoms.

The atmosphere on Saturday was charged with various 'jama' songs from the old students who entered the Trade Fair grounds with their own traditional and adapted instruments, to pump up school-based performances.

There was plenty to eat and drink, however a common feature throughout the day-long event was the sight of the long and passionate embraces of ecstatic old mates, perhaps surprised at how far life had brought them.

Virtually every available space in the Trade Fair Centre and its immediate environs, stretching onto the main roads leading to Accra, 37 and Teshie, was occupied.

Old students participated in various competitions, including five-aside football, basketball, 50-metre sprints, table tennis, pool, chess, tug-of-peace, music and dance and eating competition.
Several artistes such as Kontihene, Sarkodie, Kwaw Kese and a host of others also took the stage to treat the gathering to various genres of rap, hip-life, high life and club music. There were also interesting mixes from DJ Black, who wowed the crowd till the event came to a close.
