Nkoranza North needs a Hospital

Busunya (B/A), Oct. 10, GNA – Mr. Donatus Achisiba, Nkoranza North District Director of Health Services, says the District needs a hospital to promote quality health delivery services among its people.

He stressed that the lack of a hospital in the District was a major challenge facing health facilities in the area as all referral cases have to be sent to the overburdened Saint Theresa's hospital in the Nkoranza South District.

In view of lack of a hospital in the district, St. Theresa's hospital is compelled to respond to referral cases from more than 15 health facilities in the area, including nine in Nkoranza South district, he said.

Mr. Achisiba told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Busunya, capital of the Nkoranza North district, that six main health facilities located in selected communities in the district were serving the people.

The beneficiary communities are; Busunya, Yefri, Kranka, Dromankese, Pienyina and Bono Manso, Mr. Achisiba said.

He complained that because of the poor state of roads in the communities, patients on referral went through a lot of hardship before reaching referral centres.

The District Director noted that the inadequate skilled technical staff and the unavailability of a laboratory for the diagnosis of Tuberculosis (TB) and other communicable diseases were major challenges to the district directorate.

There is also the shortage of midwives to conduct skilled deliveries in some of the facilities, Mr. Achisiba stated, and appealed to Brong-Ahafo Regional Director of Health Services to post some health personnel to those facilities.

He announced that Malaria continued to top the 10 causes of Out-Patient Department (OPD) cases, but said the District directorate is embarking on an anti-malaria advocacy in the communities in a bid to reduce its prevalence.

According Mr. Achisiba, the District health directorate had trained 108 community-based surveillance volunteers to support health officials in the various health facilities.
