Ghanaian International Christian Atsu scored today in a 5 goal thriller between Newcastle United and title-chasing Liverpool as the Reds grabbed 3 important points from the Magpies.
The pacey winger lashed onto a loose ball in Liverpool’s 18-yard box before slotting it into the back of the net to restore parity for the hosts on the 20th minute.
His goal was however not enough even though striker Salomón Rondón also got the better of the away side’s goalkeeper Allison Becker in the second half. A late goal from Divock Origi in the second half sealed the win for the visiting side who had already scored twice in the first half through Virgil Van Dijk and Mohammed Salah.
This is Christian Atsu’s 28th appearance for the Magpies this season and he has managed to find the back of the net two times. Besides getting on the score sheet today, the player showed fine form with his runs in the opponent’s half.
Ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt, the former Porto man is expected to be one of the top players for Ghana as they attempt to win a first title in over 3 decades.
