Minister for Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah has disclosed that government will not refund Black Stars captain money used to pay for a chartered flight for the Black Stars.

After the Black Stars defeated Congo 5:1 in Brazzaville in the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Asamoah Gyan chartered a flight for the players which cost him $62k after the ministry failed to make proper arrangement for the players.

According to the former Sunderland striker, he was forced to make arrangements for the team after poor planning by the Ghana Football Association and the Black Stars management team.

Speaking on Tuesday at the Public Accounts Committee, the Member of Parliament for the people of Atwima Mponua Nwabiegya emphasized that Gyan rescued the team at his own expense.

“For us as a ministry, we have our arrangements, that was what was in place, there was nothing [like] we reneged our duty or on our obligation, because everything was in place.

“So if the captain decides to pay that from his own pocket that is fine…we as a ministry we won’t complain.”

He added that the ministry “never breached our arrangement”.
