Asamoah Gyan will return to the venue of his Nations Cup horror spell but insist he won't be out to prove anything.

The Stade Rennes forward is hotly tipped to start in Milovan Rajevac's side that will play Sudan on Sunday at the Ohene Djan Stadium after his fine start to the season and says there will be “no pressure on any player to prove anything”.

Gyan was subjected to intense criticisms and scrutiny during the 2008 Nations Cup when he missed sitter after sitter in the game against Namibia and has not scored for Ghana since netting the first goal of the tournament from the spot against Guinea.

He has also had a long running battle with injury but says he feels much better now. “I am ready for the game,” he declared.

“When I look at my game I can see I am getting my best form back because two goals in four games is a good return. I am fully fit so I can play for 90 minutes but it is up to the coach.”

Gyan has appeared in just one of the 2010 qualifiers so far and is hoping the players can adopt the same attitude that has given them top spot in Group 4 on Sunday.

“With the quality of players we have we should be able to get three points but we should be careful about assuming that it is won even before we play. If we play to our strengths, show them respect and do what we do best, the three points will be ours.”
