Press Freedom Day Gala

A special football gala will be held at the St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School Park at Cantonment tomorrow as part of activities to celebrate this year’s Press Freedom Day.

Under the theme, ‘Press Freedom, Free and Fair Election for the Beautiful Game, the event will be graced by the chairman of the National Media Commission (NMC) who would also perform the official kick-off at 6.30 a.m.

Mr. Dave Agbenu, national organiser for the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) said four teams would participate in the event that will enjoy sponsorship from Accra Brewery.

The four teams are the Print XI to be captained by Ransford Tetteh, President of the GJA, RadioXI to be led by Affail Monnie, Television XI to be inspired by Akuamoah Boateng while Bright Blewu, general secretary of the GJA, leads the Agency/Online team.

Participants and fans will be thrilled to brass band music on a day where the winning team will ride home a glittering giant trophy.

Ahead of the kick-off, players of the various sides have expressed optimism of winning the trophy at stake, promising fans brilliant soccer artistry.

For the Print XI, names like the sensational Dave Agbenu, the enterprising Kweku Baako Jnr., unyielding Ransford Tetteh, Ackah Anthony and Emmanuel Amponsah who is expected to oil the midfields while Fiifi Banson, Kwami Sefa Kayi, Affail Monie, Gustav Adjei and others star for Radio XI.

The TVXI will parade players like Joe Lartey Jnr of TV Africa, George Lartey, Mohammed Amin Lamptey while the Bright Blewu skippered Agency/Online side also parades the likes of William Ezah, Manudu Gariba, Richard Avornyotse and Kofi Addai with Veronica Commey expected to make a surprise appearance.
