The President’s Cup National Swimming Championship held at the University of Ghana Swimming Pool on Saturday; April 27, 2024 saw Legon Swimming Club dethrone Marlins Swim Team as the 2024 Best Swim Team in the country at the end of the one-day event.

Delphina Quaye, President of Ghana Swimming Association (GSA) and her board members staged yet-another epic edition of the national aquatic sports competition after massive success in its maiden edition back in April 29, 2023.

A total of 11 swim clubs in Ghana competed in various events totaling 59 with numerous heats for both men and women which ranged from Mixed 50M Medley Relay, 50M, 100M and 200M Freestyle, 50M and 100M Backstroke, 50M and 100M Butterfly, 50M and 100M Breaststroke, 200M IM and 50M Freestyle Relay.

Besides, Legon Swimming Club remained unstoppable as they emerged winners of the President’s Cup National 2024, smashing a total of 15 gold medals, 6 silver medals and 7 bronze medals, making it a grand total of 28 medals won. This triggers the Legon Club to be crowned the Best Swim Team of the championship in Ghana.

Jonathan Forcados, 20, from Legon Swimming Club won the Best Male Swimmer with 5 gold medals to retain his former success as former winner Oduma Agyei, 14, from GH Dolphins won the accolade for the Best Female Swimmer with 5 gold medals, beating competition from Petra Goddard from Ghana BlueFins Swim Club among others.

Speaking to Radio Windy Bay, 98.3FM, Mohammed Muniru Kassim, General Secretary of Ghana Swimming Association reveals, “We are trying to rebrand to Ghana Aquatics in line with the Global and continental standards. The President’s Cup is an annual affair and so is this year. It’s about nurturing talents to ensure sure the good of swimming in Ghana.

Meanwhile, Africa Games 2023 double medal winner Abeku Gyekye Jackson and team mate Harry Stacey for Ghana were the biggest absentees in this year’s championship. Other notable personalities to be in attendance include, Seth Nti of GSA, Abbiw Kojo Jackson of GH Dolphins, Ralph Quaye of Marlins and Delphina Quaye, the President of GSA.
