Anlo Ladies FC qualifies to women FA cup quarter finals after beating Rootz Sisterz in penalty

Volta regional women champions of all time, Anlo Ladies football club has narrowly beaten Rootz Sisterz football club from Eastern region Somanya in a 6-5penalties shoot out to qualified to the quarter finals stage of 2021/2022 women FA cup held at Anlo Senior High School park at Anloga on Sunday, March 27.

Mohammed Hadizah of Anlo Ladies FC put the team's nose in front by scoring a spectacular header after a free kick from captain of the side Julian Vuvor in 16minutes into the first half of the game.

The match was equalized after Rootz Sisterz's Rubby Osei scored in the 27thminute of the first half.

Referee Addokwei Rejoice awarded a penalty to Rootz Sisterz side in the late hours of the first half after Julian Vuvor committed a foul against Exornam Boankra at their goal yard.

Goalkeeper Mawunyo Avugbe saved the penalty to give her team, Anlo Ladies lifeline during the game which ended 1-1 after 90 minutes of play time.

Goalkeeper Mawunyo Avugbe again sent them to the next stage after saving the last kick from the opposite goalkeeper Ruth Sackitey after all the 11 players took their play.

Coach of Anlo Ladies, Mr Francis Kwame Hoedzorde and the entire management of the team expressed excitement over the win.

Mr Hoedzorde told ModernGhana news that the team has made history by qualifying for the quarter-finals of women FA cup.

"The best place we have ever reached in our previous women FA cup was round 32 stages, and this time we made a very big history and we are poised to pull more surprises to make the region proud", he added.

They appealed to individuals, corporate organsations, philanthropists and the general public for support.

Anlo Ladies has now joined 7 other teams at the quarter-final stage as they wait for the draws to be conducted soon.
