Do Little Or Done Much

President John Evans Atta MillsPresident John Evans Atta Mills

his predecessor did little or nothing in his eight years in office sounds puerile and lacks sincerity.

It is also inconsistent with an earlier position about the state of the economy he inherited during an interaction with officials of the World Bank.

The figures and facts the Mills team presents for the consumption of international financial institutions are at variance with the politicized ones meant for domestic application which make the most noise anyway.

The 7.3 percent growth recorded is not for domestic consumption but for the Bretton Woods institutions.

That is how lowly politics has become under President Mills and we shudder to think this is happening under the tenure of a learned gentleman of the ranking of a Professor whose shortcomings should not include insincerity.

When he was commissioning the refurbished railway coaches and line, President Mills attracted the attention of many who found the acknowledgment of his predecessor's efforts towards resuscitating the moribund transport system sincere and commendable.

We have had cause to listen to players in the previous administration lay out proof about projects they sourced funding to undertake, but which were aborted midstream as a result of the change in baton. Prof Ameyaw Ekumfi was prompted to explain the work he did towards resuscitating the railway system, especially the North-bound extension.

Whatever happens therefore in the railway system the resuscitation was commenced under the Kufuor administration.

Shortly after being sworn into office, President Mills embarked upon the commissioning of a number of projects started by the previous government.

Indeed he was captured as promising to continue projects initiated by his predecessor, a subtle admission that there were outstanding assignments awaiting completion.

There are many tangible initiatives in use today which have impacted positively on the lives of many Ghanaians.

Within the eight years of the previous administration, ICT and communications have reached heights which can be described as phenomenal. No wonder beggars own mobile phones even as they stretch out their arms at traffic intersections to beg for money.

The number of mobile phone networks and financial institutions, with more knocking on the country's door, is a testimony to the distance covered by the Kufuor administration.

Bandying mendacious utterances about non-performance of the previous administration as being done by President Mills, all for political expediencies, does his image and politics in general no good.

To maintain respect for himself and the position he is occupying, it is necessary that he remains consistent with what he churns out.

Metro Mass Transport, National Health Insurance Scheme and National Youth Employment Scheme among others are tangible achievements of the Kufuor administration.

Are the foregone not enough achievements besides the improvement in the road network, and the new face of the 37 Military Hospital among others?
