Zelensky's Senseless War!

“If Zelensky had played it safe by prioritizing the security of his country above idealism and empty nationalism, Ukraine would have remained a peaceful country today. Unfortunately, Zelensky has chosen to fight a war that neither NATO nor anyone else in his right mind would fight!”

The sights and sounds from Ukraine ever since Zelensky plunged it into war with Russia are heartbreaking. The Ukrainian military may have held its own over Putin’s marauding army in Kiev and parts of the Northern frontline. We may even applaud Ukraine for sinking the Moskva, Russia’s warship in the Black Sea.

But the butchering and rape of civilians in Bucha and elsewhere by Russian forces and the relentless artillery bombardment of homes, hospitals, churches, restaurants and train stations is only a page in Putin’s playbook designed to subjugate and annihilate a whole population.

And all these while NATO continue to hold armchair conferences and issue docile statements meant at doing nothing to halt the war except to throw feeble economic tantrums at Putin! Zelensky himself begged NATO with tears in his eyes to help secure Ukraine’s airspace against Putin’s brutality no avail.

But here is the irony. While Zelensky unwisely defends freedom and democracy with the lives of hundreds of thousands of Ukranian men, women and children, members of the military alliance only stand by and watch Putin unleash terror on Ukraine. Ukraine has chosen to fight a war that neither NATO nor anyone else in his right mind would fight!

Clearly, the Ukrainian President and his allies miscalculated Putin’s intentions. Why would Zelensky compromise the security of his country for NATO membership, when NATO itself is completely uninterested in prosecuting a war with Putin at any level? A strong NATO would grant Ukraine emergency NATO membership under the current circumstances and risk the fury of Putin!

Zelensky’s costly disregard for the lives of his countrymen is a reckless miscalculation for which Zelensky and his war mongers must be held accountable.

Had he played it safe and prioritized the security of his country above idealism and deceptive nationalism, Ukraine would have remained a peaceful, progressive, happy and united country today. Her women and children would not become unstable refugees in Poland and the neighboring countries, of Eastern and Western Europe.

We must condemn Putin by all means for his excessively high-handed reaction to Ukraine’s NATO dreams. But Zelensky is an equal partner in crime. If your finger is a man’s mouth, you do not pull it out by force. You use tact and diplomacy ─at the expense of being considered weak and foolish if you still want a complete finger.

Of course, I sympathize with Zelensky and with all the men, women and children who have had to lay down their lives for this senseless war. But even victory over Putin would not bring back the hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians who have lost their lives. Neither would it restore dignity to the many women who have been raped by Russian soldiers. This senseless war would live brutal scars and unforgettable traumas on Ukrainian children for many years to come!
