Ghanaian duo Danny Amankwaa and Sulley Muniru earned qualification to the knock out round of the Uefa Champions League on Wednesday night.

Muniru's Copengahen recorded victory while Amankwaa watched his FC Copenhagen claimed a comprehensive win.

Younger brother of former AC Milan star Sulley Muntari - Sulley Muniru celebrated qualification as he came off the bench to help Romanian side Steaua Bucuresti who thumped Czech side Sparta Praha 2-0.

Minuru, a former Liberty Professionals player, was introduced by the home side in the second-half and he anchored the midfield for the Romanians.

Danish-born Ghanaian forward Danny Amankwaa watched from the Telia Parken stands as his FC Copenhagen side claimed a 3-0 win over Romanian side Astra Gurgui.

Striker Patrick Twumasi was in action for Kazakhstan side FC Astana who slipped to a 2-1 loss against Scottish giants Celtic.

A first half Leigh Griffiths penalty had put Celtic 1-0 ahead on the night, and 2-1 on aggregate.

Striker Patrick Twumasi played the entire period of the game for Astana FC.

Their evening was thrown into chaos when Astana's Agim Ibraimi scored from 40 yards. Extra-time, and possibly penalties, seemed to beckon until Dembele won the penalty and was then thundered it home. (BBC)

Celtic have progressed to the play-off stages of the Uefa Champions League.

Elsewhere in Belgium, there was a big disappointment for Ghanaian trio Frank Acheampong, Dennis Appiah and Emmanuel Sowah as Russian side FK Rostov sealed progress at the expense of Anderlecht.

Defender Appiah started and lasted the entire period of the game but Acheampong was introduced in 54 minutes. But the former King Faisal star was unable to change the fate of the game for the home side.

Starlet Emmanuel Sowah was axed from the Anderlecht squad entirely.
