A Comprehensive Report On NDC B/A Unity Walk!

Feature Article A Comprehensive Report On NDC BA Unity Walk!
JAN 9, 2018 LISTEN

Defeat is painful but delivers valuable lessons in exposing wrongs. After the 2016 general election, it was obvious something had to be done almost immediately to begin to remedy the wrongs of our party that inflicted on us that unpleasant defeat. One of the most important recommendations of the Kwasi Botwe committee was for the NDC to stage a nationwide healing and reconciliation tour to reconnect with the ranks and file membership of the party. Series of Unity Walks have been staged at various parts of the country beginning with the Northern region, Greater Accra, Central, Western and now Brong Ahafo region. The theme for the Brong Ahafo Unity Walk was “Mobilization of the grassroots; a shared responsibility”

Techiman was the destination, it was massive, there was crowd, it was fun and it was peaceful. Organizers of the Unity Walks suggest that B/A has been the leading crowed puller so far amongst the regions they have been to. The excitement and jubilation with which the people of Techiman embraced their turn of the Unity Walk was beyond expectation. In the midst of the walk which virtually turned into celebration was the deafening voice of the cry of the people of Techiman because of the upsurge in the general cost of living in Ghana; i.e, the high cost of fuel, high cost of electricity, high cost foodstuff, high cost of transportation, difficulty in doing businesses because of the struggling cedi etc. There was obvious call from the people of Techiman to change this “deception induced change” in 2020.

It was a successful, peaceful and incident free Unity Walk from K3t3n in Techiman municipality through the principal streets of Techiman Township to Zongo School Park where the teaming young and old participating crowed converged for interaction with the leadership of the party they have demonstrated the fortitude to support and to stand for.

There was a prayer of thanks given for the New Year 2018 and for the incident free walk. The senior members of the party from the regional and National levels who were present took turns to address the crowd amidst cheers and yells of the song which virtually became the facto anthem of the B/A unity walk which is “2020 we go show Nanaaaa”. It was the turn of JM to address the occasion. The massive cheers and loud yelling of the name JM JM JM was almost uncontrollable for the next minute or two. JM finally began his address with a request for a minute of silence and solemnity in honor of the death of our senior comrade and a profound stalwart of the party Alhaji Bature.

The unity campaign message was proficiently articulated to the people of Brong Ahafo. Few other national topical issues could not be ignored by JM amidst the cheering crowd. The OSP Bill which has been assented into law by President Nana Addo was touched on. For JM, there is nothing special about the special prosecutor. He believes that for a real Special Prosecutor office to be created with full authority of prosecutorial powers independent of the Attorney General, there will be a need for a constitutional amendment and not merely a parliamentary Act. He therefore intimated that since this prosecutor is going to take instructions from the attorney general to prosecute or not to prosecute cases, there will be nothing special about it and he remains subject to the dictates of the Attorney General. He said he (the Special Prosecutor) is just going to be like any other state attorney.

JM also called for support of members of the NDC party who served in various official positions in the past administration. He indicated that no one is guilty until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction. He therefore admonished members of the party to rally around our own and support them to ensure they are fairly legally represented and are properly tried for justice to prevail. The former president jabs the current administration for being what he referred to as “unaware government”. He said they pretend to be unaware of the extortions at DVLA, the special courts to prosecute defaulters of TV license payments, payments of over 100,000 dollars to sit by the president etc.

The former president challenged the Akuffo Addo administration to prosecute him and his wife Lordina if they believe they are involved in the DKM scandal as they alleged when they were in opposition. It is fair to say the Brong Ahafo Unity Walk was a massive success. The Regional and National leadership of NDC say thank you to the good people of Brong Ahafo Region and Techiman in particular. 3y3zu!!!!
