Aidoo-Suazo (W/R), June 1, GNA - The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ellembelle, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has inaugurated an ultra-modern maternity block at Aidoo-Suazo in the northern part of the Ellembelle District.

The block comprises delivery room, midwife"s office, lying-in ward, laboratory, water reservoir as well as toilet and bath rooms.

About 10 communities within the catchment area, are expected to benefit from the medical facility.

The project was constructed by the ENi oil company at Sanzule under the instrumentality of Mr Buah.

The MP who cut the tape to inaugurate the facility, recalled that previously expectant mothers had to go Aiyinasi or Prestea to access maternal care on motor bikes and other means.

Mr Buah said most pregnant women were traumatised as they could not access medical care and died in the process.

He asked the ENi oil company to re-direct its focus towards its social responsibilities in the rural belt of the District.

Mr Buah said his outfit had repaired the only ambulance at the facility, which had broken down to enhance referral services.

The MP donated a motor bike, a bicycle and one refrigerator to support staff working at the facility.

Mr Buah also presented pens and two footballs to school children in the area.

He charged the chief and his subjects to maintain the facility.

The Director of Health Services, Madam Elizabeth Corney asked pregnant women to visit the facility till delivery and not resort to orthodox medicine alone.

She expressed disappointment about maternal deaths in the area in time past due to the absence of a medical facility.

Madam Corney charged the health officials at the clinic to render dedicated services to expectant mothers to save lives.
