Sunyani, Mar. 24, GNA - AmplifyChange, a multilateral funding agency, is to fund a 10,000 Euro project aimed at increasing young people participation in adolescent reproductive health in four regions in the country.

The Global Media Foundation (GLOMEF), an anti-corruption media advocacy non-governmental organisation, will implement the one-year project in Brong-Ahafo, Northern, Upper East, and Upper West regions.

Disclosing this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani on Thursday, Mr Raphael Godlove Ahenu, the Chief Executive Officer of GLOMEF, said the project would start in April this year.

He said teenage pregnancy and unsafe abortion were on the increase because many adolescent people in the four project implementing regions did not have adequate knowledge on sexual reproductive health.

Mr Ahenu said sex education should not be seen as a taboo because many teenagers were into active sexual intercourse and they ought to be protected.

He said sex education ought to be intensified in basic schools and in churches so that teenagers would adopt the appropriate decision to take.

Mr Ahenu also appealed to parents to draw their girls closer to them and let them know the consequences of premarital and sexual promiscuity.
