Asunafo South Local Council of Churches condemn NDC-NPP clashes

Kukuom (B/A), Oct. 24, GNA - The Local Council of Churches in the Asunafo South has condemned the recent violent bloody clashes between supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the area with a call on the police to act professionally and arrest as well as prosecute perpetrators, irrespective of their party affiliation.

The irate supporters brutalized each other whiles also vandalizing offices of both parties as well as that of the Electoral Commission (EC) and other Departments of the District Assembly, Reverend Osei Wusu, Head Pastor of the local Assemblies of God Church and spokesperson said on Friday at a press conference at Kukuom in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

Rev. Wusu said the fierce confrontations had created some uneasiness, fear and panic among residents affecting economic activities in the area, but no arrests have so far been made by the police.

'The Police must be allowed to execute their work professionally without any political interference - control or manipulation', he added.

Rev. Wusu appealed to the leadership of both parties in the Brong-Ahafo Region, to call their supporters to order.

He stressed the need for the National Peace Council to also establish a District Peace Council to assist in maintaining peace in the area.
