Ellembelle (W/R), May 11, GNA - Dr George Sipa Yankey, the Minister of Health, has appealed to nurses and doctors to accept posting to rural communities to lift health standards there.

He was speaking at the inauguration of Alhaji Nuhu Memorial Health Care Centre at Kamgbunli in the Ellembelle District at the weekend.

Dr. Yankey said the centre would improve health delivery in the area and also help curb the incidence of contagious diseases.

“It will also reduce the ascendancy of maternal and infant mortality rate.”

Dr. Yankey said the area would get its fair share of health services and that the centre would be elevated to a polyclinic by next year.

He said the Half Assini, Axim, and Eikwe hospitals would be expanded and equipped while a district hospital would be built at Ellembelle.

Mr Yankey expressed worry about the wrong impression that the National Health Insurance is not working.

He said the scheme is still in operation and advised officers of the scheme to avoid acts that would bring the scheme into disrepute.

The Deputy Minister of Health and the MP for Ellembelle, Mr Emmanuel Kofi Buah, thanked Ali Nuhu Abekah, the founder of the clinic for the facility.

Mr. Buah donated 40 laptops, three printers, five computers and its accessories worth 40,000 Ghana cedis to support the Computer Development Initiative (CDI) for the community.

Osabarima Kwaw Ntsie II, Paramount Chief of Mpohor Traditional Area,Osabarima Ntsie said the health centre will help prevent the spread of contagious diseases in the community and appealed to the young people in the community to patronize it.
