Joseph Osei-Owusu, the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, has asserted the Minority's decision to abstain from the approval of Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, the President's nominee for Chief Justice, would have no bearing on the Appointments Committee's recommendations.

On Monday, May 29, Osei-Owusu spoke on the Asaase Breakfast Show that the Minority's decision "As of now, it doesn't have any impact at all."

“They wanted that [the judgement] to probably inform their question to her. That’s all, but after the completion of the process, we cannot let a decision abide, on whether they got a copy or not,” the chairman of the committee said.

The Minority Caucus in Parliament requested for the details of the judgement on James Gyakye Quayson, former Assin North MP to be made available by June 7 before it can pass a vote on the president’s Chief Justice nominee, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

The Caucus refrained from passing a vote on the nominee after the Appointments Committee of Parliament met after vetting the Supreme Court Justice.

The group is demanding to see the full judgement before any decision is taken.
