'Blame Ken Ofori-Atta for Accra floods; he prioritises national cathedral than our lives' — Dormaa West MP

Mr. Vincent Oppong Asamoah, the Member of Parliament for the Dormaa West Constituency, and a ranking member on the Parliamentary Select Committee on Works and Housing has blamed the frequent flooding in Accra on the Finance Minister, Mr. Ken Ofori Atta failure to release adequate funding to undertake projects.

Speaking on Joy News, an Accra-based television station on Thursday, June 9, 2022, Mr. Oppong revealed that the Finance Ministry has refused to respond to the call of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Works and Housing to release adequate funds to undertake projects that can help solve the frequent floods in Accra.

According to him, the finance minister prioritize the National Cathedral project by issuing GH¢25 million to the National Cathedral Secretariat as additional seed money over people who are being killed anytime there is rain.

“All the flooding issues we have been facing here in Accra are a result of the constraints placed on us by the finance ministry in our quest to be funded to undertake projects that can help solve the flooding issues in Accra. In fact, the finance minister prioritizes the building of a national cathedral more than the lives of the citizens,” he stated.

He added that the biggest problem of the NPP government is the Finance Minister claiming he chooses where to spend money and where not to spend money without taking into account the results of such "negligence."

“The biggest problem of NPP as a government is the finance minister because he prioritizes where he should release money and where he should not be releasing it to. And let me tell you if the situation of flooding in Accra is something to go by then the finance minister has failed Ghanaians,” he intimated.
