Elections Limited Voter Registration: NPP, NDC supporters clash over registration of minors at Ga South
SAT, 18 MAY 2024 LISTEN

It took the intervention of the police from the Weija Division to halt a potential clash between supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the registration of minors at the ongoing voter registration exercise at Ga South Municipality.

The exercise was halted for over 45 minutes as the police tried to control the process.

Both parties accused each other of registering minors from the Christian Methodist Senior High School and the Ngleshie Amanfrom Senior High School leading to the confrontation between supporters loyal to both parties.

In an interview with Citi News, some supporters of the NDC claimed, “The NPP delegates brought in minors from Ngleshie Amanfro Senior High School and the Christian Methodist Senior High School to register and these children are not 18 years.

“The electoral process does not belong to NDC neither does it belong to NPP. People have formed the NPP line and NDC line and this is not good. There must be clear-cut rules which must be followed.”

However, the NPP supporters denied the claims, saying “It is not true that we are registering minors who are not 18 years. Most of these children are 18 years, they have Ghana cards, and for that matter deserve to register.

“I am aware that it is only one person who is creating all these problems. We have been running this process for a few days now and it’s not true that we are registering minors.”
