Katherine the Great, the only woman in world history ever named "The Great" who came from a humble poor German royal family, got her Russian husband killed to raise her to her greatness. She annexed Crimea which was part of Ukraine, extended Russia to the east, and laid the foundation for today's size of the country. She reformed the nation by implementing the book of the law while keeping serfs of farmers in legal bondage. Royal families under her reign blossomed.

Alexander II, married to a German royal, reformed the country further by liberating the serfs and reforms of governance.

Nicolaus II, a weak and clueless ruler married to a German royal refused further reforms and was eventually assaulted ending the Romanov's rule over Russia.

It did not come as a surprise that a German Philosopher, not a British, Dutch, Danish, or French, but a German, Karl Marx in collaboration with Lenin his executive overthrew the Zar regime and implemented it in an agricultural country a concept designed for an industrial economy: Communism. They wiped away the spirit of Peter the Great, founder of St. Petersburg after he had toured Germany for years undercover to be trained in various crafts Germans were excellent in to help his nation. (Communism in China had to collapse as before and under Mao, it was not an industrialized country.)

Of all Soviet Union leaders, it was and is a Russian with German training as a KGB spy in East Germany who raises personal wealth and political meaningfulness in Russia. Instead of reforming his Russia like many of his German and German-influenced predecessors did to rise from internal strength above the rest of the world, he has opted for a strategy of past glory.

History always comes back in different forms. The link between Russia and Germany in this case seems to be strikingly challenging for the mind to make sense of it all. The October revolution of 1917 ended in 1991 with the fall of the Soviet Union as a concept (Communism and a united front of by force same-minded nations) at the wrong time in the wrong place; making history but not historic.

Vladimir Putin wants to correct a few mistakes made in the past as he interprets the course of history but is ignoring that history is not made for repeating mistakes but to learn from them and move on in glory. Like the October 1917 revolution generations later was meant to fail Vladimir Putin repeats now again the circle of not knowing the wisdom of history. The royal rulers before him titled "The Great" took territories based on the wisdom of history and sustained their ways for very long.

As much as Vladimir Putin tries to copy the golden splendor of the Romanovs in so many ways as he steps out of history and e.g. China and its ambitions around the corner his concept will be short-lived; lives, time, money, and glory destroyed.
