NPP NPP's Ahmed Bediako Karim vexed over Chief of Staff Ghc50k for Afia Schwarzenegger's father's funeral
MAR 16, 2022 LISTEN

A donation of Ghc50,000 made by the Chief of Staff Frema Osei-Opare to Afia Schwarzenegger for her father’s funeral have angered some members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and one party member who could not hide his feelings is Ahmed Bediako Karim.

According to the angry Ahmed Bediako Karim, he deliberately restrained himself from commenting on the Chief of Staff and the GHc50,000 she allegedly donated to Afia Swarzenager for her late father’s funeral because of the shock and anger expressed by party loyalists.

He said the decision by the Chief of Staff and other government appointees is rather surprising given the numerous complaints of neglect by grassroot members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) who laboured to secure victory for the party in the 2020 general election.

“What even incenses me the most these days is seeing and hearing callous, selfish and insensitive appointees calling on the ‘hungry and very angry’ party loyalists to eschew apathy and help the party 'break the 8', yet all their actions and inactions are inimical to the electoral fortunes of the party”.

Mr. Karim believes,”… 'breaking the 8' could be very easy for the NPP provided these selfish elements are whipped in line by the leadership of the party to appreciate the fact that, they’re in their current portfolios not because of their so-called impressive CVs but simply because of the sacrifices and hard work of party loyalists who risked everything including their lives to bring the NPP and President Akufo-Addo to power. #EnoughOfTheSelfishness”.

Adding up to register their displeasure on the same issue was a voluntary group of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) known as Alliance for Foot Soldiers Advocacy (AFFA).

According to AFFA, although it is sympathetic to the plight of bereaved individuals, it finds it extremely hard to understand and accept the logic behind this particular gesture considering the opportunistic character involved, and the times the country finds itself.

The group called on appointees in the Akufo-led-government to desist from acts that demoralizes the spirit of hardworking party members.

The group also noted that it is, therefore, “shocking” that a few years down the line, with the NPP in power, the “Chief of Staff, as well as senior government officials, will suddenly forget the pain she caused the party and reward her beautifully to the annoyance of party members whose toil and sacrifices birthed the fruits of government.”
