Finally, Prizes to 2010 Award Winners

Organisers of the annual Ghana Music Awards, Charter House at a ceremony at the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) headquarters in Accra on Tuesday presented prizes to the various winners at the 2010 edition of the awards.

The event was attended by a cross section of artistes, MUSIGA executives and officials of Charter House. MUSIGA was represented by its president Diana Hopeson and secretary, Bibi Brew while Charter House's team included Executive Director, Mrs Theresa Ayoade.

Award winners who were on hand to pick thier prizes were:

MUSIGA Merit Award - Obenfour Nana Yeboah
Instrumentalist of the Year - Kwame Yeboah
Gospel Song of the Year - DSP Kofi Sarpong
Traditional artist of the year - John Osei Korankye

High Life Artiste of the Year - Kofi B
Afro-Pop Song of the Year - 4x4
Artiste of the Year - Sarkodie
Producer of the Year - Richie
Best Collaboration of the Year - Kasiebo - Obrafour & Guru

Each winner got a check for GHC1,000 while the Artiste of the Year took home a check for GHC4,000. The headline sponsor of the awards, MTN, also gave each winner MTN talk time.

Diana Hopeson used the occasion to advice musicians to learn and take the various components of music very seriously especially the art of singing, stagecraft and musical instruments. She also advised that they should practice a lot, look for places to perform and always showcase what they have got.

She called on musicians to study the business of the industry. The MUSIGA president also praised the event organisers, Charter House and sponsors MTN for organising the annual event which seeks to acknowledge and reward musicians for hard work.

Mrs Theresa Ayoade of Charter House urged the public to take interest in the award and offer constructive criticism to improve the awards.

She disclosed that preparations for the 2011 edition would start in earnest soon after the World Cup which starts next month.
