Winning awards is never my focus - King Promise

Afrobeat singer King Promise says winning awards is never an aim in his musical career.

According to the ‘Slow down’ singer, his main aim is to make good music whenever he walks into the studio to record.

“I make music for the people and that’s the most important thing, but it doesn’t mean that if you’re rewarded or your works are acknowledged it won’t motivate you to push harder,” he stated in an interview on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z show.

Music lovers have constantly raised concerns about the singer’s inability to make any wins at the VGMAs since 2019 despite countless nominations.

Responding to this, the singer indicated that he doesn’t know whether to blame his fans, himself or the organizers of the awards scheme.

He said he was never disappointed at his inability to bag any award, an action he said will never deter him from keeping up with his good works as far as his career is concerned.

“I was disappointed that things didn’t go as expected because then it gets to the point where you begin to ask ‘what the issue is.’ I don’t have any issues with anyone and if there are any, I’m not scared to solve them,” he stated.

The Nungua – born singer added that he feels appreciated for the support rendered him by Ghanaian music lovers.

“Yes. From the fact that when I jump onto the scene, it’s always been love from the people. With the appreciation, I feel like because when the song comes they make it a hit. So obviously I can say that there’s love,” he added.
