Students and dancers from the Noyam African Dance Institute, in collaboration with Phoenix Dance Company, will on Friday October 21 present two dance pieces at the Alliance Française in Accra.

Comprising Ghanaian dancer Ayele Okine and Cameroonian dancer/choreographer Moukan Fonkam, Phoenix Dance Company will perform a piece titled Chouac Puu, which tackles a world in perpetual change.

The production unfolds with a disoriented youth who makes expenses on ethnic cleavages, religious connections and linguistic barriers that tend to affect communities and the world at large.

Indeed, two bodies, solidified by years of practice, carry hope and attempt to provide fresh breath for the 'construction' of a harmonious world. Chouac Puu is equally an evocative discourse that challenges the entire world for dialogue, peace and a new awakening.

Also on stage would be a group from the Noyam African Dance Institute who will present a piece that resulted from a week-long workshop with Fonkam that took place at the campuses of the institute, which is located on the hills of the Dodowa, near Accra.

Established over a decade ago, Noyam African Dance Institute derives its technique and methodology from movement characteristics, aesthetic qualities and the philosophy of African dance traditions as well as the enormous movements and rhythmic resources available in diverse communities throughout Ghana.
