The veteran Nollywood actress, Joke Silva, recently opened up about the struggles in her marriage as her husband, Olu Jacobs, battles dementia.
Silva said in a recent interview with media personality and fellow actress Nancy Isime that her husband's illness has taken a toll on their relationship.
She recalled that Jacobs was not just her best friend but her entire life when they first got married.
However, as his sickness worsened over time, it led to major changes in their marriage.
"It has not been easy...The person I married, for the most part, is no longer there," Silva expressed, adding, "But when he was there, he was an incredible father and an amazing husband. He was practically my best friend."
Despite the difficulties posed by Jacobs' dementia, Silva said she still cares deeply for him.
Though the closeness they once shared is now gone, her love for him remains.
"The husband I knew is no longer here for me, but this man is someone I still love," she said.
Silva, who has been married for 37 years and known Jacobs for 42 years, acknowledged the struggles they faced early in their marriage.
According to her, she has now come to accept their situation and sees herself more as someone caring for her father.
