Women In Business And Technology Receive Training

iSPACE, a Ghanaian owned digital and business hub, has acquired a new office at Spintex to provide training for young women in digital skills like coding, website creation and robotics among other things.

The training package includes an 'incubator reloading support' to empower 'women startups' in technical and business development areas and support the public with digital ideas, resources and skills.

It has a funding amount of GH¢10,000.00 for each startup to develop his or her project.

Mr Josiah Eyison, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of iSPACE, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said the Centre's mission was to provide emerging entrepreneurs with the needed resources, guidance and skills to launch their businesses.

He said its vision was to see entrepreneurs in Ghana challenge entrepreneurs across Africa and beyond.

The hub was willing to partner the Government in future to train many youth and children in technology and its related fields, he said.

He, however, said: 'Where I have a problem is when government uses entities like us to push its agenda but later neglects us and opens a digital space for the entrepreneurs we have trained, who compete against us'.

Mr Eyison noted that the Centre was working towards establishing a female investment fund for women, which was going to commence with 12 women startups, each of whom would receive GH¢10,000.00 in 2019.

He disclosed that the Centre would organise a digital skills training session for pupils and teachers in the three regions of the north, in a fortnight, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility.

Mr Eyison said the Centre relocated to Spintex from Osu and Labone because other digital hubs were established at those areas.

'We, therefore, found it necessary to relocate to Spintex, a community where the people had no access to such opportunities,' he said.

'The hub is now closer to Tema, Ashaiman, Sakumono, and Teshie Nungua and would serve the youth fundamentally in digitalisation.'

The office, opened three months ago, has business and technology training centres, private offices for hiring, free and paid for communal co-working spaces for the public and corporate institutions.

Ms Favor Nma Ozichuku, the Operations Manager of iSPACE, said plans were underway to establish branches in the other regions.

She noted that the Centre, which had existed for five years, won an award from the 'Google inclusion and diversified award programme,' for its comprehensive training of women across Africa. The award was contested by 16 countries across the world.

She said the Centre believed in Africa and was working towards becoming the number one leading hub on the Continent.
