A Letter To The Politician......
15.07.2018 LISTEN

I am writing this article as an ordinary Ghanaian citizen “mbobrowa” to express my displeasures over some issues concerning we the ordinary citizens in the hands of the political leaders. Politicians, I have asked you people questions on several occasions but never received answers; I therefore ask again, hoping I might get answers this time. Are you the people from different planet other than ours? Are our problems alien to you? Why do I ask this question. This is because there are a number of times that you people demonstrate to us that you have no feelings for what the ordinary Ghanaians of this country are going through. You implement policies that only benefit the rich people like you and not the ordinary Ghanaians.

These are some issues that amazed most about you, It looks funny to reduce plane ticket price and increase fuel price. It looks funny to asked for new luxurious cars when there are no ambulances in the country. It again looks funny to ask of increase in salaries and allowances when the ordinary man is suffering to get one meal a day. It also looks funny to measure and believe in the development of the people in your country based on GDP which tells you the ordinary Ghanaian man spends 13gh Cedis per day whereas in actual sense the ordinary Ghanaian is suffering to spend 5gh Cedi a day. And the other features of the unfolding depressing drama includes an increase in taxes, increase in price of goods and services choking already suffering masses.

Mr. Politician, a country that can afford loans for 275 so called servants to buy land cruiser V8s for the sake of comfortability, but cannot afford a loan to buy ambulances to save the lives of it's citizens is an evil country!. I think the politicians have no moral rights to be driving those luxurious V8 cars, but no wonder the Ghanaian Politics is now dominated by deceit, dishonesty and general lack of integrity. The ordinary people are dying here and there, because of the absence of quality health care. The lack of beds in the Surgical and Medical Emergency Unit at the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital and other hospitals has forced doctors to treat patients in plastic chairs and on the floor. To me personally, I see everything wrong with some of our politicians using those high class cars when in actual sense our health sector is very weak. It is also amazing that those politicians who decide on our health's fate don’t even have hope in the sector.

Every now and then, these politicians go outside the country for medical checkups, so what is his or her business if Korle-bu, Anokye, Ridge or my village clinic lacks beds for patients to lay on for treatment. It appeared that as soon as you are able to deceive the people to give you their support to be a political leader, you are automatically rich and you will start spending money as if money was never a problem for you. Fuel, food and even means of communication have been made more expensive to make the political leaders live a luxury life. Many more policies are being put up to tax the ordinary man for the politicians, because some of them don’t pay tax. Honestly speaking, I think our political leaders are not fair to us because it looks odd, how they will try and raise money at all costs from the poor citizens, including lowly paid civil servants, in order to pay the political leaders or to buy them luxurious cars for a little or no work done. We are supposed to be served and not the other way round.

I wish and pray my readers don’t misjudge or misunderstand my write up. Nevertheless, the above remarks do not suggest that all political leaders in the country are corrupt nor does it stand that they lack morality. There are a lot of clean and good politicians. And again, I don’t against any political leader using a land cruiser V8 or any luxurious car, but on the contrary, I see everything wrong with our political leaders using those cars at the expense of the ordinary Ghanaians taxes. I know someone may ask whether it is only the politicians that are corrupt, and the answer is absolutely no.

There are many others who are not politicians but are very corrupt. But if we are to analyze how the politicians make good and clean promises during their campaigns and then turn away from them, it looks so sad, and also these politicians have made promises to serve us at all cost. There are many instances, where we can easily point to some politicians who misappropriate the country’s wealth and went away unpunished. It appears, failure, mediocrity, corruption, fraud and theft are all celebrated and the culprits are hailed, instead of some politicians bowing down in shame for such ill practices they rather stood up, defend and fight for more chances to do the same. In fact Morality at the political realm has become so corrupt and some of the politicians and followers alike are such self-seekers. If you have a conscience, no matter where you belong, NDC, NPP or any other political party, but you will at least acknowledge that, there is something wrong with our political leaders and the country as a whole. Good save our mother Ghana......
