Tuberculosis Hits Kumasi Central Prisons

Kumasi Central Prisons were built in 1901 to accommodate only eight hundred (800) inmates. The prison which saw it first upgrading in 1925 is currently housing over one thousand eight hundred (1,800) inmates.

Kumasi central prisons have exhausted its current land space and there is no room for expansion.

Due the congestion there is no airspace for meaning habitation and the inmates sleep feet to feet only imaginable in slave ships.

Information gathered by otecfmghana.com from the Kumasi central prisons on Thursday 14, September, 2017 indicating that there is a severe outbreak of tuberculosis in the prisons yard and over twenty (20) and more inmates are affected.

Addressing the Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister on her emergency visit to the prisons, the Ashanti regional commander of Ghana prisons DDP Lord Nii BoyeTagoe narrated that got to know about the outbreak couple of days ago when it was not severe as it is today.

Hon. Elizabeth Agyemen the Deputy Ashanti regional Minister quickly ordered for the treatment of the affected inmates by the Komfour Anokye teaching hospitals and also assured the authorities that her government will quickly do something about their outstanding health bill debt. over three hundred thousand owning komfour Anokye teaching.

Hon. Elizabeth gave full assurance of the possibilities of moving the Kumasi central prisons to a new location soon due the congestion of the place and also gave her support for the prison’s collapsed wall.
