You Have No Excuse To Abandon Your Ambitions

You Have No Excuse To Abandon Your Ambitions

Dedication - To my own mother, Florence E. Aggrey, who is an angel in the life of an ambitious illiterate.

I am really struck by the soulful story of a young man in my neighbourhood. He is a 30 year old guy who is just an illiterate, that is, he can neither read nor write. So he is now getting an adult education to learn the very basics of language such as alphabets and construction of simple words like "to," "do," etc. And my mom, a dedicated nursery school teacher, is helping him to grasp what he is being taught in school. In a conversation with the gentleman, he proudly told me that he would persistently pursue his burning ambition to become literate no matter the difficulties, in order to gain any reliable employment which demands literacy. Oh my goodness, my heart is filled with a cocktail of sorrow and joy!

That is why my soul is compelled to inspire ambitious people in our world to hold on to their ambitions so that their dreams become a reality. Why? "Ambition is the path to success. Persistence is the vehicle you arrive in," according to Bill Bradley, a former US senator. A person without clear-cut ambitions is actually one of the poorest folks on planet earth. If you lack ambitions, you lack a very successful future; and if you lack a very successful future, then you will surely end up in a whole mess one day. Besides, "A man's worth is no greater than the worth of his ambitions," Marcus Aurelius stressed.

And remember Frank Tyger's quote, "Ambition is enthusiasm with a purpose." No wonder incredibly ambitious individuals focus largely on their ambitions and they ignore their sickening challenges. Because they have vowed to follow their purpose till they emerge entirely successful. Personally, I do not give a damn about the scepticism of my family, the indifference of my friends and the mediocrity of our society regarding the pursuit of my priceless aspirations. In fact, I am deeply convinced that I have no excuse to forsake my rare dreams since I am responsible for creating my own future, bright or dark.

Okay, which flimsy excuses do you rely on to camouflage your cowardice in the face of your diminishing ambitions: no money, discouragement, poor environment, age factor, gender or what? None of them is an irrefutable excuse because you have to deal with them wisely. Hey, that illiterate man is 30 years old, yet he is gladly learning what infants learn though other people will ridicule him. Yes, "It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop," Andy Warhol declared. Therefore, master your fears and persist in chasing your aspirations. For that is an uncommon strategy for reaching dizzy heights with your dreams. Stay blessed!
