POTAG defiant on calls to return to classroom

There is no immediate end in sight to the two week-old strike by the Polytechnic Teachers' Association of Ghana (POTAG).

Members have resolved that the action will be called off only when they have seen evidence of the test-run being undertaken by the Controller and Accountant General's Department (CAGD) in their migration onto the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS).

An emergency Delegates' Congress held at Accra Polytechnic appreciated efforts made so far by stakeholders in resolving the salary issues.

It was however resolved that all arrears due members are paid accordingly per the schedule before rescinding the decision to stay out of the classrooms.

A statement signed by General Secretary, Oswald Atiga, said POTAG maintains its decision not to perform the three out of the twenty-five services it renders in the Polytechnics until the outlined conditions are met.

Based on the experiences of other unions, POTAG warns that “it shall not countenance any form of distortion in the salaries of its members. Any form of distortion would be an automatic trigger for further action”.

The Association however assured polytechnic students and the general public that it will reconsider its current position immediately the conditions are met.
