January 18, 2011 Akitibomo (Ash), Jan 18, GNA - The 2010 best tomato farmer in the Kwabre East District, Mr Daniel Agyei, has appealed to the youth in the area to take to farming, saying it is more rewarding.

He said the days when agriculture was despised were over and this reality should not be lost on the young people.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on his farm at Akitibomo near Wadie-Adwumakase, Mr Agyei said he was ready to share his experience and give guidance to those who show interest in farming.

He said there was absolutely no point for the youth to migrate to urban centres in search of non-existent jobs and end up idling when they could have tilled the land to earn decent living.

He said the annual National Farmers' Day ceremonies should help to change any negative perception they have about farming.

Mr Agyei also appealed to chiefs and other land owners to release land to young people who are eager to go into agriculture and they should be supported with soft loans and inputs including high-yielding seeds and fertilizers.
