As part of its corporate social responsibilities, Adom Fm, a Tema-based radio station Friday organized a blood donation exercise for the nation's blood banks.

Explaining the concept behind the exercise, Event and Promotions Manager, Lawrence Tamakloe said the station had taken notice of the various horrific car accidents that have been occurring nowadays and felt the need to help donate blood to resuscitate accident victims

He said the exercise had been scheduled for May and December of every year and commended institutions like Cowbell Ghana Limited, Indomie and Voltic Mineral Water among others for assisting them in various ways to make the event a reality.

We targeted seven hundred people for the exercise and the turn up has even exceeded the targeted figure,' he informed.

"We plan to organize this event twice every year as part of efforts to sustain the life of accident victims and people in need of blood transfusion” he added.

Speaking to The Statesman in an interview, Deputy Chief Donor Organizer at the Accra Blood center, John Ahiadjie refuted claims that there was not enough blood at the center.

His explanations are that there are various classes of blood and it depends on the type of blood in demand which makes it scarce sometimes.

He stressed that people who came there to donate and were found to be infected with diseases like Hepatitis B, blood pressure (whether too low or too high) and others were diagnosed and advised to seek further treatment; they are not allowed to donate.

The event was witnessed by Daddy Bosco, Akuma, Odeneho Appiah, and Kwadwo Fordwuor and several other staff of Adom Fm.

Prior to the blood donation exercise, Adom Fm held “Nhyira nsuo” to feed and clothe orphans and needy people.

It also hopes to organize a Mothers' Day event that will enable them entertain mothers in Tema and its environs this month.
