The Berekuman Citizens Association has expressed concern about the deplorable state of roads in Berekum, saying it does not befit the status of the town.

According to members of the Association, Berekum has lost the accolade as the Golden City because of the deteriorating roads in the area.

Access roads to suburbs such as Anyinasu, Kyiribaa, Biadan, Senase, Mpatase, Kotaa and Adom, are all in a terrible condition.

The Organizer of the Berekuman Citizens Association, Francis Manu Gyan, who led the Citi News team to some of the communities said the roads need to be reconstructed urgently.

Mr. Gyan said the roads worsen during the rainy season as most of them become muddy hampering the movement of people, goods and services.

“The current state of Berekum, once the Golden City, compared with our peers like Sunyani, Techiman, Dormaa-Ahenkro , Wenchi and Nkoransa gives us cause to enquire whether our share of the common fund is less than theirs. If not, we are calling for a proper forensic audit of all the assembly’s common fund allocated to the Municipality over the years,” Mr. Gyan noted.

Williams Frimpong, a driver who plies the Berekum-Biadan road in an interview with Citi News said for a week he has not been worked due to the onset of the rains.

He urged government and the Berekum Municipal Assembly to act quickly to ensure that roads in the Municipality are a given a face-lift.

Founder of the Berekuman Citizens Association, Paul Osei Agyemang, debunked allegations that the Association is anti-government organisation.

“Our objective is to push for the development of Berekum, any government that is in power whether NPP or NDC, we would continue to push for development, so those alleging we are anti-government do not know what they are talking about,” Mr. Agyemang stated.
