Call a jack a jack. Call a spade a spade. But always call a whore a lady.”

Patrick Rothfuss, The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #1)

Tempers are flaring, judgements are being passed and everyone seems to have something to say on Moesha’s interview she had with CNN. The only thing that is evident to me is that a ‘lady’ have gone to make known to the world how she is making ends meet in what she describes as a ‘man economy’ in so many words. Her generalization, I believe, is what has made her comments distasteful and hard for Ghanaians to swallow. It will be quite hypocritical though to say her assertions were false. We live with them everyday.

There are ladies who trade sex for their basic needs and a lavish lifestyle. Disagreeing to this because you are not one of such ladies, or you don't know a lady who does that, is like a blind man saying there is no such thing as colour. The fact that you cannot see it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. There are also women who run helter skelter in the sun all day, just to make ends meet. There are ladies who value dignity over comfort and won't stoop so low to have a random person in her pants just so she can look expensive.

We all have diverse values and the fact that yours is socially acceptable doesn't necessarily make it right . What we should be concerned about is how to ensure that our ‘right’ values are making a change in the society and are inspiring those claim they have genuine reasons to live sexually funded lives to switch to something better. Pointing fingers and calling people names is no less shameful than telling the world you trade your body for money.

The economy is undeniably hard as she mentioned, but it is up to us all to work harder, pay our taxes and make it better. We will continue to rant aimlessly if we fail to identify the golden opportunities and make something better out of them for ourselves and the generations yet to come. Even the little time we spend on social media trying to look good in the eyes of people by criticizing Moesha is enough to do something positive. If we think she painted us black to the world, then let's do something to right the wrong.

Let's support each other, work hard, pay our taxes, blame the government less, invest , and make our individual lives better. Both men and women can earn enough to pay rent and live the life they've always dreamed of. Let's change our mindset, quit the hypocrisy, stop acting as judges and leave Moesha alone. She is only a sinner who is sinning differently.
