Ghana's State Of Agriculture: Where Do We Stand As A Nation?
23.10.2017 LISTEN

Agricultural development merely projects beyond the planting of crops and rearing of animals .It also involves post harvest mechanisms until it reaches the final consumer notwithstanding the efforts of the extension services department.

Agriculture indeed feeds other sectors of every country's economy and contribute intensely to the economic plights of most countries that engage highly in agriculture .

Indeed , many in the past would feel proud to be called farmers due to the significant improvement in the agricultural sector , coupled with the value attached to this noble profession of farming .

WHAT DO WE SEE TODAY ....???
Farmers' welfare in both the societies and the country at large are beginning to attract less attention.

Poor and improper functioning of extension systems , leading to improper adoption .

Inability of governments to equip agricultural offices with the necessary equipments.

Bad , poor , improper and inconsistent polices coupled with improper implementation of formulated policies by reason of political sentiments.

Failure of agricultural stakeholders to pay attention to the developing pace of agriculture and react to changing times.

Complete absence of cooperatives that could otherwise favour the formation of groups to promote extension activities.

Lesser investment in research to bring to bare , the moving trends of the sector .

Do We Now See Where We Are Lacking As A Nation ..???.

THE WAY FORWARD: WHAT MUST WE BE COMMITTED TO ...??

1.We the youth ,must rest it upon our shoulders to encourage agriculture through active participation in agricultural programs and other events in agricultural perspective through different platforms as seminars , lectures and workshops .

2. Government must equip even if not all district and regional warehouses , at least all regional warehouses only for proper disbursement to farmers .

3. Reintroduction of the agricultural extension system , coupled with personnel resource to bridge and link the gap between farmers and agricultural stakeholders not leaving the likes in order to restore adoption back to the sector as it existed in the past .

4. Good , thorough , proper and consistent implementation of policies through efficient conduction of feasibility studies to ensure sustainability .

5. Stakeholders in the sector sector should be attentive to the complains of farmers so to create the link between production and processing.

6. Formation of farmers' cooperatives to create unity and stabilise producer price among farmers .

7. Research must be financed in this Sector since it is that which brings to bare , the feelings of the stakeholders , the trends of productivity in the sector and the way forward .

I believe with these practical steps , we can get back to our feet as a nation and be proud of our natural vegetation and it's allied resources .

Long Live Africa,
Long Live Ghana .
Thank you .
