Members of the Wenchiman Association, has removed all billboards of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the district and barricaded the NPP Constituency office at Wenchi.

The association is comprised of all citizens in the Wenchi District of the Brong Ahafo Region.

Their action was in protest against the nomination of Madam Ibrahim Bintu Farizana as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area.

They claimed the nominee is a stranger in the district.

For the first time in many years, both sides of the Wenchi chieftaincy divide have buried their differences and joined forces to put pressure on the government to change Madam Farizana and come up with a new nominee who is acceptable to all citizens of Wenchi.

Addressing a news conference at Wenchi on Monday that attracted more than 500 members of the association from over 50 communities, the Secretary, Mr Adjei Tweneboa, warned that they would ensure the demise of the NPP in the district if President Kufuor did not withdraw the nomination of Madam Farizana and replace her with someone of their choice.

He said the nominee who hails from the Tain District is not a registered voter in the area and more than 99 per cent of the people in the district, including the entire NPP constituency executive did not know her.

He stated that the news of the President's nomination had shocked the Sofoase and Ahenfie Yefri Royal families, as well as the Adikrofo and the entire inhabitants of the traditional area.

“The ghost of Dr Busia, whose shoes His Excellency claimed to be wearing, would turn Wenchi into Mecca, in his grave crying for true positive change at Wenchi.”he said.

Mr Tweneboa said, “We feel Dr Busia and Dr J.B. Danquah's names are fading from the minds of Ghanaians because since the NPP government came to power, nothing concrete had been done to portray the image of our great leaders.”
