Years Of Administration Of Rector Of Kintampo College Of Health Must Be Increased To Improve The College Status And Expose Rots

No matter how good you think you are as a leader, my goodness, the people around you will have all kinds of ideas for how you can get better or worse. So for us, the most fundamental thing about leadership is to have the humility to continue to get feedback and to try to get better - because your job is to try to help everybody else get better.

Few days ago, there was a brouhaha and brouhehe in kintampo college of healh from some sections of tutors who were less than half of the entire college tutors writing to the ministry over alleged GH¢463,000 for the purchase of a V8 Vehicle and amount of GH¢57,669 purported to renovate the college’s kitchen which they claim has not been done.

We students populace salute the Rector, Prof. Ahmed Adu Oppong for his great achievements at the USA and Ghana. The CV of the professor indicates he has held bigger portfolio than even being the Rector of the college demonstrating that the statements made by Mr. Peter Tadi, Secretary of Health Tutors Association of Ghana(HETAG),Kintampo branch that the actions and inactions of the Rector have not depicted that of a leader who has vision for the college is unfortunate.

A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way – John Quincy Adams.

Students of the college have realized the vision of this great professor and like him most because he puts the lecturers on their toes. Lecturers have bullied students especially when it comes to compulsory purchasing of handouts disregarding the financial constraints students go through. Lecturers could stand in front of the class and say to their students that if you don’t purchase handout he/she will fail you. Hold and behold if you dare not buy grade ‘F’ awaits you. The professor on his few days of assuming office advised them accordingly.

We must say that the reason why sections of lecturers are demonstrating is not due to their alleged claims because those claims lack value. Moreover the period and date of their demonstration was also strategic (Period of interview for applicants). It is really shameful to see some lecturers bowing their heads from camera. I am ever ready as a student activist to face any consequences from my article. Lecturers who are part of the demonstration process can decide to fail me in my papers or not. Lecturers should also be ready and prepare for demonstration from the entire students populace against their unqualified actions and inactions towards we students over the past years till now.

Reasons why we students think lecturers are demonstrating instead of their alleged claims

(i) Decrement of lecturers allowances
The Rector has decreased certain allowances that lecturers are supposed to receive for the purpose of investing into building of infrastructures for the college. These lecturers are not in favour of the decrement.

(ii) Interview for applicant is now centered on the Rector, a representative from ministry and one tutor (meaning three people) - According to the MOH.

These lecturers fear their so called protocol would not be accepted. Protocol students in the college are more than qualified students who have been taken genuinely over the past years. But this trend of interviewing students has been changed this year from a release by the MOH secretariat.

(iii) Fear of lecturers with lower qualification to be transferred

The college is gradually graduating into the university where lecturers with Master’s degree and PHD would be allowed to lecture. The professor’s vision and his words depict that lecturers with diploma and degree could find their way out of the college in due time because degree lecturers cannot teach degree students whilst diploma lecturers cannot teach diploma students. Over the years we lecturers with diploma qualification were allowed to teach diploma students which doesn’t happen anywhere in the country.

Now the alleged claims
(i) Lecturers not seeing V8 car
Our question is that there has always been management meeting in the college and this could have been asked at tutors meeting. The money was not taken secretly but was made known to the tutors for that purchase. The professor is the man of the college and He needs to enjoy as such to brighten the star of the college.

(ii) Money taken for renovating of College’s Kitchen

We students were set aback to see a renovation of the College’s Kitchen after the first semester. Infact we were very happy because it was one of our problems over the past years. The renovation is evident but lecturers should not say there hasn’t been any renovation but they fear to say maybe the amount taken for the renovation was huge. The word huge is even relative.

Conclusion
We students are organizing a strong demonstration against the lecturers for our absolute freedom over six itemized reasons which would be released during the demonstration process in September,2017(when the college is in insertion)
