Fake Army Officer Arrested In Tamale

John Dramani Sulemana, 34, who posed as a Colonel of the Ghana Armed Forces, has been arrested by the Tamale police for defrauding some persons to the tune of GH¢12,970.00 under the pretext of recruiting them into the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police Service.

The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, who narrated the incident to DAILY GUIDE, said the suspect allegedly defrauded about five persons who had officially lodged a complaint with the police.

He added that the affected victims paid an amount of GH¢1,600.00 each to the suspect in order to get enlisted into the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police Service.

According to ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, this came to light after Sulemana was arrested by the Tamale police for allegedly stealing a Hyundai Santafe with registration number AW 6513-13.

People who thronged the Tamale District Court laughed uncontrollably when the accused started crying like a baby which stopped proceedings for a while.

His Lordship Augustine Essah subsequently consoled him.

The complainant, Attah Boakye, a driver, told DAILY GUIDE that the accused person engaged his services to transport him to Kumasi, adding that he planned to travel to Tamale in the Northern Region for business purpose at a cost of GH¢450.00 a day.

He added that upon reaching Tamale, John Dramani Sulemana requested for the use of the vehicle to enable him see a friend, one Chief Adam Awal, to which the driver obliged and handed the vehicle to him.

According to Attah Boakye, he waited for hours but the accused person never showed up and later switched off his phone.

The driver realized that he had been deceived and reported the matter to the police.

ASP Ebenezer Tetteh indicated that victims of the accused person realized that it was the same person who collected moneys from them in the guise of getting them recruited into the Ghana armed Forces and the Police Service.

Meanwhile, a background check on him indicated that between 2006 and 2012 John Dramani Sulemana was a soldier stationed at the Education Unit in Accra as a map reading instructor.

In 2012, he went on leave without authorization and never returned into the Ghana Armed Forces.

According to the accused person who confessed to the crime through interrogation, since he went out of the Ghana Armed Forces, he tried getting work elsewhere but to no avail.

The accused person has currently been remanded into prison custody in respect of the stealing case to reappear on 7^th January, 2016.
