Nkawie, (Ash) Dec 15, GNA - The Police Motor Traffic Transport Unit (MTTU) has arrested 10 drivers in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District in a special operation mounted to check indiscipline on the Akuakwa-Nkawie stretch of the Kumasi-Bibiani highway.

This forms part of the accident-free yuletide operations.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Minta-Afari, the District MTTU Commander, named the offending drivers as Alex Boateng, Isaac Boadi, Kwabena Poku, Kwaku Ofori and Kwame Addae.

The rest are Opoku Agyemang, Awudu Mohammed, Kofi Badu, Paul Appiah and Abdul Fatao.

ASP Afari, who led the operation, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that they would all be processed for court.

He said they were determined to bring recalcitrant drivers to justice to reduce the carnage on the roads.

He advised drivers to respect traffic rules and regulations and to ensure regular maintenance of their vehicles to avoid accidents.

ASP Afari renewed his appeal to the Ghana Highways Authority to fix the numerous potholes, particularly, between Anyinamso-Number-Two and Betinko on the Kumasi-Bibiani Highway where fatal accidents have reoccurred for some time now.
