What Sarah Palin and Atta Mills Have in common – April Fool Jokers
08.04.2010 LISTEN

Did you run into the following on the web sometime around April 1st?

“Sarah Palin to Visit Ghana
Failed United States vice presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, is planning a tour of Ghana to support a yet to be identified political party. President Mills, former presidents Kefir and Rawlings are expected to meet Palin at the airport. The trip to Ghana is expected to cost $1 million Palin will be paid $250,000 to give a speech at the University of Ghana, Legon on the 15th of April. She will get a further $100,000 for a speech at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & technology………”

A good April fool's Day joke and it follows in an April fool tradition that has been running on Ghana web for some time now. Funny, ingenious and harmless (if you the joke is not on you). The real joke was on all those 200 or so commentators who did not click on the link and got suckered into swallowing it hook and line. To them I say “Happy birthday, Suckers!! Come again next year!!”

What follows below may not qualify as an April Fool's Joke, it being a tardy too late. A joke nonetheless and it is and is on the Ghanaian voter who about a year ago, had to choose between a sick, incompetent pretender and an arrogant, spoilt daddy's boy.

Breaking News: Ghanaian President to Address Joint Session of US Congress

Health-challenged Ghanaian President John Mills will address a joint session of the US Congress during an upcoming state visit to the US. He will lecture the Us lawmakers on God's Intervention in Shaping Public Policy as it relates to economic recovery, public corruption, immigration racism/tribalism, law and order etc.

The visit is at the instance of U.S Prez Obama in recognition of Mr. Mills's inspiring leadership and successful reform programs in the afore-mentioned areas of governance. Obama is looking to tap especially into Mr. Mills experiences in dealing with personal and communal health issues. President Mills will be met at the airport by all living American presidents -- Obama himself, Clinton, Jimmy Carter the two Bushes and their wives who at their ages have health related challenges.

Mr. Mills is scheduled to deliver the sermon at an open-air all-night prayer service at the Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. Religious leaders expected to attend the service include the Dalai Lama, NYC Cardinal Egan, heads of Lutheran and Baptist conferences in the US, Revs Billy Graham, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Jimmy Swaggart etc, as well as His Holiness Pastor Joshua who will travel with the President. Pastor Joshua will help select members of Team USA for the upcoming world cup soccer tournament in South Africa. The service is a precursor to a new bill – the American National Day of Prayer bill that President Obama is about to submit to Congress for passage.

In addition to all the Ghanaian First Couple's expenses being paid by the American government, Mr. Mills will be paid $2m for the US Congress speech on the 30th of April. He will get a further $10m in set aside funds to cover life time medical care at any medical facility in the US for as long as he remains in power and stays committed to his “extraordinary management style of Go Slow, Trust God and do nothing.”

Ghanaian tax payers will pick up the $1.5 million tab covering the expenses for 90 members of the President's entourage. Mr. Mills will stay in the US for 90 days.

In his absence, the Youth wing of the NDC (party in power) will occupy the Ghanaian presidency and have a former president, a self righteous failed revolutionary, as the advisor and motivator.
