A Cape Coast Circuit Court on Friday granted Koborie Abubakar a driver's mate, GH¢2,000 bail with a surety to be justified for assault and allegedly stealing 98 fingers of ripped plantain and an aluminium basin valued at GH¢35 belonging to a trader, Madam Anita Mensah Hagan.

He pleaded not guilty and would reappear on Wednesday May 13.

Police Chief Inspector Hope Azasoo, prosecuting told the court presided over by Mr Beresford Acquah that the complainant is a tipper truck driver and a brother to Madam Hagan, who sells roasted plantain at Pedu Junction, a suburb of Cape Coast.

He said on April 15 this year at about 6:30 hours, Madam Hagan kept 98 fingers of ripped plantain at her place and left for home while the complainant on board a taxi at about 7:30 hours for work at Adisadel, another suburb of Cape Coast, saw Abubakar standing by the items at the road side looking for a vehicle to send the items away, therefore he alighted and inquired from Abubakar about the items.

Police Chief Inspector Azasoo said Abubakar became offended and when the complainant attempted to arrest him bit his left wrist but was overpowered and sent to the police station and after investigations charged with the offence.
