TAXI driver who allegedly stole a passenger’s purse as she slept in his car has been arrested by the Tema Police.

Theophilus Tetteh, 22 had at about 10.40 p.m. on Friday, April 11, picked the passenger, a Moroccan national (name withheld) on charter from Osu to Tema community 10.

As she sat in the back seat, she fell asleep and Tettey allegedly stole her purse which contained $20 and $100 bills as well as Ghana cedis, Police said.

Speaking to the Times on Thursday, Tema Regional Crime Officer, Chief Superintendent Joshua Dogbeda, said when the taxi cab eventually got to Community 10, the driver woke the woman up.

On realising that her purse was gone, she raised the alarm and people who came round arrested Tettey and handed him over to the police.

Chief Supt. Dogbeda said when Tettey was searched, the money in dollar bills was found in his under pants and Ghana cedi notes hidden in a compartment of the taxi cab.

The suspect is being kept in police custody pending further investigations.
