Some Parts of Abossey Okai Road Now Leveled But Still Dusty - Another Open Letter to Roads Minister

Feature Article Some Parts of Abossey Okai Road Now Leveled But Still Dusty - Another Open Letter to Roads Minister
MON, 22 JAN 2024

Hon Kwasi Amoako-Attah, my greetings to you once again.

On January 8, 2024, I wrote an open letter to you through www.modernghana.com. The caption of that piece reads, “At least, level and put some chippings on the Abossey Okai Road: An Open Letter to Road Minister, Kwasi Amoako –Atta”. This piece can be revisited using this link, https://www.modernghana.com/news/1284114/at-least-level-and-put-some-chippings-on-the-abos.html

Honourable Amoako-Atta, I observed blissfully that after my said open letter to you, the surface of the highly undulating Abossey Okai Road has been leveled. There are no deep cuts near the Abossey Okai Mosque and as it used to be, before I published that open letter. However, the remedial action taken so far on that road is so insignificant, Hon. Minister of Roads.

Surprisingly, your officers only leveled the road surface at some spots and sprinkled fine sand on those surfaces, leaving the road as dusty as it was before I wrote to you, Sir. Have you visited the place lately? I think that if you have not driven on that stretch in recent times, then please drive from Nima Police Station area through Awudome Cemetery to Korlebu-Teaching Hospital and back to Nima Police Station. Such a short trip will make you actually understand what motorists are going through. To face the reality for a vivid picture of the situation, you may travel in a trotro or a commercial vehicle and see things for yourself. I know you are a Minister who moves to the action spots so I am convinced you can do this.

Admittedly, you are the first after the Volta Regional Minister (Dr. Archibald Letsa) and the then Accra Mayor, Hon. Mohammed Adjei Sowah to have responded or acted swiftly regarding an exposed public problem especially on the roads. Unfortunately, in your case, your swift response has not addressed the challenge comprehensively.

On the part of the Volta Regional Minister, he quickly repositioned tilted high tension poles at Dendo on the Adidome - Sogakope Highway when I addressed him with an open letter regarding the danger posed by the tilted poles. You may visit this link, https://www.modernghana.com/news/992940/tilted-and-falling-high-tension-poles-on-the-sogak.html for that piece. After the Volta Regional Minister caused a remounting of the tilted poles, I wrote back to acknowledge his swift response. I wrote, “Well Done Volta Regional Minister: The Tilted and Falling High-Tension Poles Have Been Fixed”. This link relates to that piece, https://www.modernghana.com/news/998630/well-done-volta-regional-minister-the-tilted.html

In the case of the then Accra Mayor (Hon. Mohammed Adjei Sowah), he quickly took remedial action when I wrote about a deep hole on the road in front of CHRAJ. Within a week or two after the publication, the hole was sealed and it remains sealed till today.

Hon. Kwasi Amoako-Attah, even though the Abossey Okai road surface has been leveled, it is still very dusty and motorists still drive on the bare ground. I took that route even yesterday in the afternoon. It was undulating and dusty with rubbish on the aprons of the road, meaning that the Sanitation Minister and the Accra Mayor must also keep the Abossey Okai spare part dealers and car body part repairers working in the middle of the road under checks.

Hon. Roads Minister, a better solution to the challenge is to put chippings on the road or before then, direct that water tankers should sprinkle water on the road surface every now and then. This option may not help bu the dust is too much in the area.

In case your officers told you that the problem had been solved, then I am writing back to you to say that the problem at Abossey Okai was not solved and virtually nothing was done from the Obetsebi Roundabout towards Kwame Nkrumah Circle.

Accordingly, I will thank you, for what has been done so far and to remind you that nothing much has been done about the situation on the road at Abossey Okai.

I hope this open letter also gets to your attention and that you will visit the area as I have suggested. Having said this, we the men of straw would like to know when the contractor working on the Obetsebi Lamptey Flyover Project will return to site. ~ Asante Sana ~
