Tribute from Okponglo: A note of commiseration to my boss John Dumelo

Boss, this is a tribute to say, we’re deeply sorry for your loss, I use to jokingly tell my compatriots that the day I’m seen crying, that’s the day I lost my mom, it was meant to be joke, until I saw you, first hand, how you broke down to my disbelief. It suddenly dawned on me the deep connections we have with our mothers, even becomes more revealed when they depart.

Sometime in 2019, we met, it wasn’t by accident, our paths was meant to cross, because we both decided to undertake politics in one party. You have, before our meeting, always wanted to run as a parliamentary candidate in a constituency I have voted for a long time. But today’s tribute is not for political recounts, but rather to say that, knowing you has been such a journey, and being who I know you to be, I can confidently say that, you will get through this, not easily, but certainly.

The day you lost your mom, you called me after 11pm when you left the hospital to informed me of what has occasioned, I figure immediately in your tone that, you were heartbroken and devastated. And since then, I have watched how you manage your activities along side the events leading up to your mother’s burial. It’s only a few who will have the kind of strength you mustered in these try times.

John, as we all like to call you by in the office, kindly take heart, be strong, and be of complete assurance that, as we have always stood by you, we will continue to give our support to you unflinchingly.

The nature of things will certainly require that, you go through this rather solemn moment gradually, reflecting on the challenges of this year and how to forge ahead without a mother to call your own. But I trust that, the universe has a way of replenishing what we loss, and yours won’t be any different.
