Following an article published by Modernghana publications on 5th July 2021 authored by the Commissioner & National Volunteers Coordinator of the Special Monitoring Missions of the International Human Rights Commission- Ghana who is also the Deputy President - Anglophone for the African Youths Community - Worldwide, Amb Bernard Kofi Bonarparte applauds and commends H.E Nana Akufu Addo and the Chief of Defence Staff for their swift intervention in addressing the brutal attacks on civilians in Ejura and Wa respectively.

On Tuesday the 29th June 2021, group of armed military men stormed the town of Ejura to deny and disperse some vibrant youth who had gathered to protest the torture and murder of one Kaaka Ibrahim Mohammed who happens to be a young civil society activist and member of the recent #FixTheCountry political and social protest movement, He was beaten to death by several unidentified people on Saturday which led to his untimely death.

Several armed men from the Police service and the military intervened brutally and violently to stop and quell the protestors which led to another lost of innocent lives on the day.

Two young men were reported dead whiles four others sustained several physical injuries. Ibrahim Kaaka Mohammed happens to be a focal member of the Economic Fighters League movement a social media and vocal critic of the government in power.

In the sequel to the above incidents which were recorded, another occurred in Wa which happens to be in the Upper west region of the country where another group of soldiers assaulted citizens who sustain injuries and are in critical conditions.

Amb. Bonarparte expressed his disappointment and displeasure over the recorded incidents above exposing the flaws and unprofessional behaviour by the security men and also the violations of Human Rights and intimidation by security forces to silence and mute the citizens of their freedom of association and expression of views which is enshrined in the 1992 constitution of the Republic of Ghana.

The swift response and intervention by the President of the Republic H E Nana Addo Danqua Akufu Addo to condemn and call for an enquiry which has lead to the sanctioning of the perpetrators of these crimes against humanity is rightly in order since it goes a long way to instil the trust and confidence of the citizens for these institutions. Believing it serves as a deterrent to others who may indulge in such brutal violence.

Few days ago, the military heir-achy outlined the measures taken to bring those who were involved in the formal cases to book by demoting, dismissal and imprisonments of some of the soldiers who took the law into their hands causing fear and panic in those townships.

These interventions are highly commendable and require applauds.
