The Government of Liberia through the Monrovia City Government has commenced the erection of modern market tables for marketers in Waterside market area.

The Steal Market table project which is first of its kind in Liberia will host over 2000 marketers thereby creating a safe, clean and healthy environment for marketers to sell their commodities.

The project is a commitment made by President George M. Weah during the start of the corona outbreak in Liberia when several market structures were demolished by the MCC at the Waterside market to ensure the erection of modern structures.

The demolition exercise which was intended to give the Waterside Market a facelift and properly arrange the condition of the market to ensure safety was strongly criticized by few Liberians especially those in the opposition.

Speaking at the official launching ceremony late Saturday evening, Mayor Jefferson T. Koijee said President Weah will continue to create opportunities for every Liberian to feel the positive impact of the government through developmental initiatives.

According to Mayor Koijee, the project when completed will prevent the challenges marketers in Waterside usually encountered especially during the raining season.

He said the project will also ensure safety as the Engineers have been instructed to make sure that the Market tables are a distance from the main road.

Mayor Jefferson T. Koijee cautioned the Marketers to take full ownership of the Market Project and ensure it is highly protected.

The Marketers appreciated President Weah for the initiative and promised to continuously work with the government in promoting the Pro-poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development.

The Project launched was graced by CDC Montserrado Senatorial Candidate Thomas Fallah, CDC Chairman Mulbah K. Mulbah Jr. and other high profile dignitaries.
