Colombian pop icon Shakira has shared her sentiments about love and friendship following her separation from former partner Gerard Pique.

According to her, she doubts she would ever find love again.

In an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple MusI’m not going back to love again; friendship lasts longer - Shakiraic 1, Shakira revealed her inner turmoil, acknowledging that she once believed in eternal love but now harbours uncertainty about experiencing it again.

Reflecting on the end of about 11-year relationship with the former Barcelona footballer, she said, "I thought love would be there forever for me, and that’s one of my broken dreams. I don’t know if I’d like to find that again. Probably not.”

Despite her doubts about romantic love, Shakira emphasised the essence of friendship in her life, asserting that it last longer than romantic relationships.

"I think friendship lasts longer than love. Though I still think experiencing love, fully experiencing it with all its peaks and valleys, it’s so essential to human life," she remarked.

She continued, "Because I thought love would be there forever for me. And that’s one of my, you know, broken dreams.

“Perhaps I will. I don’t know if I’ll like to find that again. Probably not. Well, I don’t know. But friendship, I have."

Shakira admitted that she previously undervalued friendship, prioritising romantic relationships over platonic connections.

However, after facing challenging moments in her love life, including her separation from Pique, she has come to appreciate the support of true friends.

"I wasn’t one of those people who valued friendship as much. I’ve always valued family and having a partner in a couple. I’ve always been in a couple," she confessed.

She added, "But then when that wasn’t there, and when I lost my boys and when I had to face the darkest and the hardest moments of my life, friends were there and they kept me together."

Shakira, who has two sons, Milan and Sasha with Pique, acknowledged that while she may not grow old with a romantic partner, she takes solace in knowing that she will have enduring friendships by her side throughout life's journey.
