Poetry or Spoken Word is one of those topics that often gets dismissed as whimsical and unimportant. However, it is a powerful instructional tool and an important art to study at any age. Poetry is a way to understand how language and symbol systems work. It is a worthy expression of emotion, or deep feelings, and aesthetics, or a sense of what is beautiful about the world.

David Ayensu who is artistically known as Quophi Nyarko is a young Ghanaian dexterous Spoken word artist of our time who takes the art of poetry to different level.

Becoming proficient in this unique oral art, Quophi usually centers his attention on the aesthetics of wordplay and intonation mixed with special voice cadences.

With the eccentric blend of vocal art and rhythmic tunes, Quophi Nyarko goes very deep within to bring out even the most complex abstract concepts and turns them into simplified poetic musical works that have some kind of powerful vibrations uniquely attached to them.

Born and bred in the popular city of Ashaiman, Quophy started doing amateur music in basic school together with the now Award Winning Dancehall Artist Stone Bwoy. Along the line, he found his true passion which is Spoken Word. He then started writing short poetry pieces and practiced spoken word. Quophi, however, pursued poetry professionally after attaining his tertiary education at the University of Cape Coast (UCC ).

In Quophi Nyarko’s Spoken Word Journey, he has been featured to display his spoken prowess on several platforms; he has been to numerous high schools across Ghana, Ghana Poetry Festival, Kona Night with Kacey Moore among others.

According to Quophi, his primary inspirations come from God, Family, Life experience and the natural environment of which he as well as uses as most of his subject matter in his delivery.

Globally, Quophi looks up to spoken word figures like Suli Breaks and Sarah Kay whiles on the national fronts, Rhyme Sonny and Poetra Asantewaa greatly influence his works.

Quophi is currently working on his first spoken word EP which includes the hits African Calabash and Ashaiman Boy, that is set to be released pretty soon.

He also tours Senior High Schools each term with the Rhymes&Beats Program that seeks to bring out the love for poetry among students.
