“We love to run, that is what we see as our passion, and we want to become national, African and world champions, that is why we train every day,” said the budding long-distance athletes who spoke to Yours Truly at the El Wak Sports Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Denzel Poin, Sedem Butiakor and Musah Abdul Garffah were spotted training towards the 2020 Kwahu Marathon, which may be rescheduled like all other sporting activities.

They expressed sadness over the invasion of the coronavirus which has brought sporting activities to a halt and appealed to the health authorities to do something as soon as possible to advise or warn Ghanaians on the epidemic.

They said it is not easy to survive when one is unemployed and taken to sports, and hear that their programme had been put on hold.

“It’s very sad and serious, so we have to pray for God to deliver our nation,” said Denzel Poin.

Sedem Butiakor was of the view that people, especially sportsmen and women should take good care of themselves and the environment and practice healthy living styles.

Musah Garffah expressed that sports is a good business so companies should invest more in sports so that winners can get something appreciable and presentable.

All of them welcomed the huge cash prize at stake for the winner of the Kwahu Marathon and prayed that more competitions are held in Ghana.

The 2020 Kwahu Easter Marathon which comes off on April 11 is sponsored by GOIL, Ghana Gas, Ashfoam, Elbee Appliances, Valbona, Promosidor Ghana Limited, ASKY Airlines, Parin Africa, Street Sense Organisation, Teikma Sports Wear, Vaettel mineral water, MJ Grand Hotel and MTN.
