Head coach for the Black Meteors of Ghana, Ibrahim Tanko has noted that her side deserves to play at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games based on the performance they have put up at the ongoing CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

The West African side went into the continental competition aiming to grab one of the two automatic qualification slots to the next Olympic Games. Having failed to achieve that goal they are set to come up against South Africa to battle for a third-place finish.

With the last slot to the Games up for grabs for the winner of the third-place finish later today, Ghana coach Ibrahim Tanko insists his side deserves the right especially looking at the performance they have put up at the U-23 AFCON.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference on Thursday, the gaffer shared, “Based on our performance in this competition, I believe we deserve to go to Tokyo but we have to really fight for it tomorrow and am sure that the boys will be up to the task”.

He further shared, “It’s our last game in the tournament and it’s also a game that can qualify us to the Olympics so we will put in our best efforts to secure the ticket. We know it won’t be easy because both teams have been good in the tournament”.

The crucial encounter between Ghana and South Africa will be played at the Cairo International Stadium today with kick-off time scheduled for 14:30GMT.
